Chairs? Seriously!?

Chris Missal, July 09, 2008

I'm going to chalk this one up to "not-have-been-working-in-the-field-long-enough" syndrome. I frequently read Jeff Atwood's Coding Horror. On Independence Day here in the United States Jeff blogged about chairs. Really? He states:

A cheesy, cheap chair constantly reminds you how many hours of work you have left.

And this whole time I thought "not enjoying your work" is what makes you realize how much how much work you have left. I for one find myself often slightly upset when 5pm rolls around and I'm in the middle of a project in which I don't want to stop working. (I can't always stay, the carpool might leave without me!) Seriously? Over $500 for a computer chair! You sit on it! I'd rather buy 10 - 20 of the most highly recommended books of colleagues I do not have. I started thinking however, this is coming from a site that has 100,000 more subscribers than mine; what do I know?

By the time I was done reading it, my incredulity I had of the importance of the subject matter was diminished when I noticed a link to one of the chairs: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000REGDRS/?tag=codinghorror-20

Now I get it. Affiliate program Jeff? Nice work!
