ReDesign/ReAlign

Chris Missal, November 09, 2008

When CSS is used properly, you shouldn't ever have to "re-design  to achieve a new look on a site. You should only ever have to "re-align". By this I mean what was discussed in A List Apart's Good Designers Redesign, Great Designers Realign. Site note: I have the shirt they made based on the artwork for that article.

Here is a screen capture of this site before the new styles were added: Screen capture before the re-align

The following image is the site after the new styles were applied: Screen capture after the re-align

I'm not claiming this is anything compared to CSS Zen Garden by any means. Realistic changes in appearance are usually minimal, gradual and should be easy. Following these "rules" just makes it much easier. The changes I made between the two images took about an hour.

I used to be a big fan of the style="" attribute because it wasn't the <font> tag. I really hate the style="" attribute now.
